Heating often accounts for a large portion of electricity bills, especially during colder months. While we can’t avoid warming our homes, there are effective strategies to reduce energy consumption. In this article, we share practical tips on how to save electricity using Mill WiFi heaters.
Good design goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about sustainability, ease of use, innovation, smart technology, and, above all, comfort in the home.
For us Scandinavians, comfort at home is essential, especially in the cold northern climate. We even have a special term for it: “hygge.” We cherish the time spent together indoors, protected from the harsh weather. This way of life has inspired us at Mill to create heating solutions that prioritize both efficiency and warmth.
Scandinavian design is renowned for its elegance, simplicity, and ability to highlight the natural beauty of materials. These values guide us in our mission to craft modern heating solutions that are as visually pleasing as they are functional—bringing the essence of Scandinavian comfort into your home.
We believe we’ve reinvented panel heating, and the recognition we’ve received speaks for itself. With iconic design choices like smooth edges and a gently curved facade, our award-winning products bring both beauty and warmth to countless homes.
A typical scenario: you wake up on a cold morning, shivering and freezing as you rush around the house pressing all buttons to start the heaters. The heat comes slowly but surely when you are on your way out to work, school, etc. Then you will be gone for eight hours before you come home to a nice and warm house. Doesn’t this sound nice? Well, when electricity prices continue to reach new heights, this is an easy way to waste electricity and contributes to sky-high electricity bills for your household.

- Turn Down the Temperature While You Sleep
A cool, fresh bedroom is key to a restful night’s sleep. Experts recommend lowering the bedroom temperature to around 14-18°C for the best sleep quality. This is also ideal for children’s rooms.
If you’ve set your heaters to warm the house to a comfortable 21°C in the evening, you can easily switch to “sleep mode” in the Mill app. This will automatically adjust the temperature to a lower, more energy-efficient level while you sleep, reducing unnecessary energy consumption without sacrificing comfort.
- Avoid Heating During Power Peaks
Electricity prices fluctuate throughout the day, with higher rates typically occurring during power peak times – early mornings and evenings. To save money, it’s smart to reduce your energy consumption during these peak hours.
Set your Mill heater a couple of degrees higher than your target temperature before a peak period to maintain warmth. Then, adjust the temperature down or turn the heater off completely during the peak. The room will stay warm enough, saving electricity without sacrificing comfort. You can easily monitor your energy consumption in real time through the Mill app.
- PID Control for Precise Temperature Control

- Did you know that most traditional heaters continuously turn on and off to maintain a desired temperature? For instance, if the thermostat is set to 21°C, it will turn off once this temperature is reached and wait until the room cools down before turning back on to heat it up again. This constant on-off cycle causes temperature fluctuations and leads to unnecessary power consumption. This is where PID control steps in.Generation 3 Mill WiFi panel heaters are equipped with advanced PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control technology. Mill’s PID Wattage Tech™ uses an intelligent algorithm to adjust the wattage gradually, maintaining a steady temperature without the disruptive on-off cycle. This results in more consistent temperatures, reduced power consumption, and eliminates unnecessary fluctuations. The Wattage cap ensures that the heater operates efficiently within a set power range, optimizing energy use while keeping your home comfortable.
- Open Window Function

- This function is crucial for saving energy. For instance, when you open the bedroom window to air out the room before going to bed, the temperature in the room can drop rapidly. A smart Mill heater detects this sudden temperature drop and automatically switches off to prevent wasting energy. Older heaters, lacking this function, would continue to operate, wasting energy and causing overshoots.
- Solar Panel Integration
Mill Generation 3 Wi-Fi Heaters are an ideal match for solar panels, offering a fully sustainable heating solution. With Mill’s intelligent control via the app, you can easily manage energy consumption by setting a wattage cap, ensuring that the heaters run efficiently and within a defined power range. This combination offers both an eco-friendly and cost-effective heating option.
Advanced Electric Heating Technology
Mill Generation 3 Wi-Fi heaters incorporate cutting-edge electric heating technology and are certified energy-efficient. Thanks to features like machine learning and intelligent wattage control, these heaters maximize energy conversion to heat while avoiding unnecessary power surges and residual heat. The patented Mill PID Wattage Tech™ and Mill Predictive Heating™ technologies contribute to their remarkable efficiency.Backed by research from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, a 600-watt Mill heater with embedded advanced technology consumes as little as 52 kWh per winter month, highlighting its exceptional energy and cost efficiency.
